Pectoral or Chest muscle augmentation is a procedure performed that increases the size and shape of the male chest. Pectoral augmentation surgery may be performed for cosmetic or reconstructive purposes. Men that cannot build up their chest with routine exercise or men that have lack of pectoral muscle from either injury or disease or congenital reasons.
Male Pectoral Augmentation Implants Bellevue
Pectoral augmentation is performed using solid silicone implants. Fat transfer to the chest does not work well however fat transfer may help with isolated deformities of the chest wall. Pectoral implants will not increase the strength of the muscle or alter the function of the muscle.
There are two pectoral muscles the pectoralis major and pectoralis minor. Pectoralis major is the outer fan-shaped muscle which makes up most of the chest muscle. This muscle that plastic surgeons are concerned with mostly. It lies under the breast. It attaches to clavicle and sternum above and inserts onto the humerus bone near the shoulder. The Pectoralis minor is located beneath the pectoralis major and is not significant in pectoral implant placement.
Pectoral Augmentation Surgery
The procedure is performed by a transaxillary route. Which means the incision is located in the armpit area. This is well hidden and no incisions are on the chest itself. The pocket is created in the subpectoral plane. The implant is placed under the pectoralis major muscle and above the ribs. Similar to placement of a subpectoral breast implant. However, unlike a breast implant in which the lower pectoral muscle attachments may be released, in the pectoral implant placement these attachments are left intact. Pectoral implants come in different sizes and shapes. They can also be hand carved to fit certain areas.
