Improve Nasal Alignment and Facial Balance
A crooked nose can be one of the first things people notice about their face, especially in photos or under certain lighting. For some patients, the concern is only cosmetic. For others, a crooked nose also makes it harder to breathe through one or both nostrils.
Dr. Rikesh Parikh, a board-certified plastic surgeon at RP Plastic Surgery, works with each patient to understand what’s causing the asymmetry and what results are realistic.
What Causes a Crooked Nose?
A few different factors can cause the nose to look crooked or off-center:
- Genetics. Some people are simply born with nasal bones or cartilage that grew slightly uneven.
- Injury. A broken nose, even one from years ago, can leave lasting changes to the shape of the nose.
- A deviated septum. When the wall inside the nose shifts to one side, it can pull the outside of the nose along with it and make breathing harder.
- Changes with age. Skin and support structures inside the nose can shift slightly over time, making small asymmetries more noticeable later in life.
Many patients have more than one of these factors at play. That’s why Dr. Parikh looks closely at the entire nasal structure, not just the outside, before recommending a treatment plan.
How Rhinoplasty Can Straighten a Crooked Nose
Correcting a crooked nose usually takes more structural work than other types of rhinoplasty. Dr. Parikh repositions the nasal bones, reshapes the cartilage, or both, depending on what’s causing the nose to lean or curve to one side. When the septum is contributing to the deviation, he straightens that as well so the internal structure supports the new external shape.
An open rhinoplasty approach is often used for crooked nose correction. This gives Dr. Parikh a clear, complete view of the nasal bones, cartilage, and septum during surgery, which allows for more precise repositioning than a closed approach typically allows. Because the bone and cartilage work together to hold the nose in place, addressing all three structures at once helps the results hold their shape over time rather than shifting back as the nose heals.
Breathing and Septoplasty
A crooked nose and breathing problems often go hand in hand, especially when a deviated septum is involved. When this is the case, Dr. Parikh may perform septoplasty, which corrects the septum, at the same time as cosmetic rhinoplasty. This combined procedure is called septorhinoplasty.
Treating both concerns in one surgery means one recovery period instead of two. It also allows Dr. Parikh to plan the surgery with both breathing and appearance in mind from the start. During your consultation, he’ll check whether a breathing issue is contributing to your concerns and explain your options.
Who Is a Candidate for Crooked Nose Rhinoplasty?
You may be a good candidate if you:
- Notice your nose looks off-center, especially from the front
- Had a nasal injury in the past that changed the shape of your nose
- Have trouble breathing through one or both nostrils
- Are in good general health
- Understand that some natural asymmetry is normal, even after surgery
Most patients who come in for crooked nose correction already know exactly what bothers them, whether that’s an old injury or something they’ve noticed for years. Dr. Parikh’s evaluation will help you understand what kind of improvement is realistic for your specific nose.
Recovery and Results
Because crooked nose surgery often involves the nasal bones, some patients notice a bit more swelling and bruising early on compared to other types of rhinoplasty. This usually improves within the first two to three weeks.
As healing continues, most patients see:
- A straighter-looking nose from the front
- Less visible asymmetry along the bridge
- Easier breathing, if a breathing issue was corrected
Like all rhinoplasty results, the final look takes time to appear. Most patients see their full results within 12 to 18 months.

Crooked Nose Rhinoplasty FAQs
Dr. Parikh’s Approach to Crooked Nose Correction
Crooked nose rhinoplasty is one of the more complex procedures Dr. Parikh performs because it often requires changes to the bone, cartilage, and septum all at once, rather than focusing on just one area.
During your consultation, Dr. Parikh identifies exactly where the asymmetry is coming from, whether that’s the bony part of the nose, the cartilage, the septum, or a combination. From there, he builds a surgical plan around your specific anatomy and goals. Some patients want subtle straightening. Others want more complete realignment. Dr. Parikh talks through these options so you know what to expect before surgery. You can learn more about Dr. Parikh’s background and training before your visit.
